ACCESSIBILITY GUIDE FOR STAG COTTAGE

At Stag Cottage we want to make everyone’s stay as enjoyable as possible and are committed to providing accurate information about the property’s facilities to enable you to decide prior to booking whether or not the cottage will meet your needs.
AT A GLANCE
The main entrance at the rear has a step height of 5”/13cm. There is no ramp. There is level access to the kitchen/diner, which is all the same level. There is a small threshold of ¾”/2cm in height down into the lounge, which is all the same level.
The television in the lounge has options for subtitles and descriptive text.
There is a double door to the front garden with a threshold height of 1 1/2”/4cm. The patio area outside is level.
There is a staired route to the first floor bedrooms and bathroom. The stairs are 29 1/2”/75cm wide, step height of 8”/20cm and each step a run of 8”/20cm. There is a handrail on the right-hand side of the staircase as you ascend the stairs.
From the first floor landing there is level access to each of the two bedrooms and the bathroom. The doors have a width of 27 1/2”/70cm.
In bedroom one as you enter the room there is an unobstructed floor space of 118 x 59”/3m x 1.5m and access to the right-hand side of the bed, the wardrobe and chest of drawers. At the foot of the bed there is floor space of 70” x 36”/180cm x 90cm. There is floor space on the left-hand side of the bed of 70” x 23”/180 x 60cm. In bedroom two there is an area of 42” x 28”/110 x 70cm unobstructed floor space.
A stairgate is available for the top of the stairs if required.
Anon-slip mat is available for the bath if required. There is a grab handle at each end of the bath.
GETTING TO STAG COTTAGE
You can get to Stag Cottage by car or taxi. Trains run to Lydney, 7 miles away, and Gloucester, 20 miles away. There is not a regular bus service. The forest road used to access the cottage by car and on foot has an unmade and unlevel surface.
PARKING
There is space for parking one car on the forest road at the back of the cottage. This space is 6 metres from the rear entrance gate and it is 30 metres distance from the entrance gate to the back door of the cottage. Parking is free.
ARRIVAL
From the parking space to the main rear entrance, there is a low-level latched entrance gate to a gravelled area which is 60”/150cm wide. This leads to a concrete path 30”/75cm wide. There is a slight downward slope to the back door, width of the path at the back door is 32”/80cm. There are exterior lights located at the latched gate, side of the garage, and at the back door which are controlled by PIR sensors at night.
MAIN ENTRANCE
The main entrance has a step up of 5”/13cm. There is no ramp. The door is 24”/60cm unobstructed width. The door is left side hung and manual.
GETTING AROUND INSIDE
All doors are side hung, manual and are 25 1/2”/65cm wide downstairs, (except the toilet door), and 27 1/2”/70cm upstairs. All ground floor rooms have opening windows, ceiling lights, side lights, and natural light. All areas are non-smoking.
In the entrance porch of the main entrance at the rear, there is a toilet. The door to the toilet is right side hung and opens outwards into the entrance porch. The toilet door is 27 1/2”/70cm wide. The toilet area is 29 1/2”/75cm wide. The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the front only. The toilet seat is 17”/43cm high and 15”/38cm wide. The distance between the front of the toilet and the door when closed is 20”/50cm.
From the entrance porch there is a doorway 25 1/2”/65cm wide and level access to the kitchen/diner. The kitchen/diner has unobstructed floor space of 118” x36”/3m x 90cm and leads to the lounge area. The kitchen/diner is level. There is a dining table which is 32”/80cm high with space underneath.
In the kitchen there are base units at a height of 36”/90cm. The cooker hob, with 4 rings, and sink are at a height of 36”/90cm. There is a cooker grille and oven. The crockery is kept in a dresser unit at base level. Cutlery is kept in base unit drawer at 32”/80cm height. The toaster, microwave and kettle are kept on the base unit work surface at 36”/90cm height. The base units have no under space.
There is a work island in the kitchen area. Space between the island and the cooker is 48”/120cm wide. To the sides of the island there is 16”/40cm and 24”/60cm respectively.
The door to the lounge is 25 1/2”/65cm wide and the threshold drop is ¾”/2cm. There is unobstructed floor space in the lounge of 67” x 94”/170 x 260cm. There are two sofas, the seats are 18”/45cm from the floor, both sofas are high backed. One is a three-seater, the other a two-seater.
The television in the lounge has options for subtitles and descriptive text.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOM
There is a staired route to the first-floor landing to access the two bedrooms and the bathroom. The stairway is 29 1/2”/75cm wide with a handrail to the right-hand side as you ascend the stairs. Each step has a height of 8”/20cm and a run of 8”/20cm. There is a turn of 90 degrees at the bottom of the stairway.
On the first floor landing the access to each bedroom and the bathroom is 27 1/2”/75cm.
The bedroom doors are 27 1/2”/70cm wide. In bedroom one there is a kingsize bed. The bed is 24”/60cm high. There is 5”/12cm space under the bed.
In bedroom two there are twin single beds. There is floor space access of 43” x 28”/110 x 70cm. Each bed is 20”/50cm high. There is 10”/25cm width between the beds and 31”/80cm width at the end of the beds.
The bathroom is not en-suite, it is separate and services both bedrooms. The bathroom door is 27 1/2”/70cm wide. The bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower. The shower head is fixed at 67”/170cm height from the floor of the bath. The bath edge is 22”/56cm from the bathroom floor. There is a hand rail on each side of the bath. There is an area of 31”/80cm in front of the toilet and direction of transfer onto the toilet is from the front only. The toilet seat is 18”/45cm high. The washbasin is 30”/76cm high. The taps in the shower and the washbasin are operated by twisting on and off, rather than lever.
There is no 2 pin point in the bathroom for a shaver/toothbrush. A 2-pin adaptor socket is provided in bedroom one.
All rooms on the first floor have opening windows and manual, side hung doors. There are ceiling lights and natural daylight in each room. Both bedrooms have side lights. All areas are non-smoking.
GETTING AROUND OUTSIDE IN THE FRONT GARDEN
From the lounge there is a double door out to the garden, width 51”/130cm when fully open. Single door opening is 24”/60cm with a threshold height of 1 1/2”/4cm. There is no ramp. The patio area is level, the size is 150 x 154”/3.8m x 3.9m. To get to the table there are no steps.
The table is 29”/73cm high and there is clear under space from the floor to the table edge of 26”/67cm. Folding chairs have a seat height of 18”/46cm.
From the patio to the lawn area there are two steps down, each of 8”/20cm height. There are stepping stones at ground level to the lawn area. The path to the lawn is 20”/50cm wide. The lawn slopes gently downwards. All areas are non-smoking.
There is a small pond in the garden which is partially fenced. The pond is 24”/60cm at its deepest point.
VISITOR INFORMATION AND SERVICES
Visitor information files are available in the cottage which include the property details and instructions for all appliances. Emergency procedures for fire and evacuation are documented and displayed for guests.
Mobile reception is variable depending on the network and guests’ location in the cottage. There is an internet connection at the cottage which, as well as internet services, enables use of WhatsApp and Wifi Calling. There is a payphone at the entrance to the forest road leading to the cottage, 250 metres away. There is a telephone in the cottage available for incoming calls and making calls to Emergency Services.
